Neither the website nor the app collects data about you.

This website

The website has no cookies, analytics, ads or forms and stores nothing in your browser.
The website is hosted on GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.). Like any server, GitHub records technical data such as your IP address for security and operation; see GitHub's privacy statement.
The installer is downloaded from GitHub (same terms as above).
The support button leads to PayPal; PayPal only receives data when you open it, under its own rules.
Problem reports go to GitHub Issues and are public (a GitHub account is needed). The app's problem report shortens links to the site name and hides your Windows user name; don't add passwords, cookies or personal data.
Contributions are processed by PayPal. As the recipient, the author sees what PayPal shows for every payment (e.g. the payer's name and e-mail) and uses it only for bookkeeping, never for advertising or anything else.
The Share button uses your device's own sharing or opens the network you choose; that network gets the link only when you click it.
Messages to abnpsdev@gmail.com (the project's contact address, a Gmail mailbox at Google) are used only to reply to you and are never passed on or used for anything else.

The app

In short: the author of the program does not collect any data about you. No accounts, no tracking, no ads.

1. What the program does not do

The program does not send the author any data, usage statistics or error reports. There are no ads and no analytics.

2. Who the program connects to

The site you download from (video, audio, thumbnails, subtitles).
GitHub (api.github.com, github.com): checking for and downloading a new version of the program, at most once a day and when you click "Check for updates".
PyPI (pypi.org, files.pythonhosted.org): checking for and downloading the site reader yt-dlp, at most once a day.
PayPal only if you click “Support the project”: the PayPal contribution page opens in your browser, and the program sends nothing.

These services can see your IP address and the program version; their own privacy policies apply.

3. What is stored on your computer

Settings (registry: HKCU\Software\VideoDownload), the download queue and history (links, titles, paths, sizes, times) and the downloaded yt-dlp in the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\VideoDownload, plus a local key for the connection with the browser. None of this leaves your computer.

4. Login cookies

Only if you allow it in the browser. Only cookies of the site you download from are passed to the program, they are kept only in memory, and the temporary file for yt-dlp is deleted immediately. They are never written to the queue, the history or reports.

5. Browser extension

Permissions: watching network requests (to recognise video streams), a script on the page (to find the playing video and recognise DRM), the right-click menu, a local connection to the program (native messaging) and temporary per-tab storage; cookies only if you allow them. The extension sends nothing to the internet: it passes data only to the program on your computer, and only when you click.

6. Problem report

It is created only when you save it yourself. Links in it are shortened to the site name, and the user name and secrets are hidden. You send it only if you decide to.

7. Deleting data

Clear the history in Downloads → Download history → Clear the list. Uninstalling removes the program, the browser connection and the downloaded yt-dlp. The queue, history and settings remain until you delete the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\VideoDownload and the key HKCU\Software\VideoDownload.

8. Contact
