Video Download — terms of use
By installing or using Video Download you accept these terms.
1. Purpose
The program is meant for downloading video and audio that you have the right to download, above all:
- your own videos, for example videos you have published yourself on YouTube or another platform;
- content for which you have the permission of the rights holder;
- content under a free license (e.g. Creative Commons) and content in the public domain.
2. What is not allowed
- Downloading other people's protected content without the permission of the rights holder.
- Sharing, republishing, selling or otherwise publicly using downloaded content without permission.
- Circumventing DRM protection. The program does not circumvent DRM; it recognises such content and refuses it.
3. Your responsibility
You are responsible for what you download and how you use it, including compliance with the laws of your country and with the terms of use of the platform you download from (e.g. YouTube's terms).
4. No affiliation with platforms
Video Download is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, YouTube, Google or any other platform. Platform names belong to their owners.
5. No warranty
The program is provided free of charge and "as is", without any guarantee that it will work with every site. The author is not liable for damage caused by using the program, except where the law does not allow liability to be excluded.
6. Privacy
The program does not send any data about you. It only connects to the site you download from, to GitHub (checking for a new version) and to PyPI (updating the site reader yt-dlp). Login cookies from the browser are used only for that site, kept only in memory and never written to disk.
7. Third-party components
The program uses yt-dlp, FFmpeg, Qt (PySide6), Node.js and other components under their own licenses; the list is in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt in the program folder.
Video Download — end user license agreement
This agreement applies between you and the author of Video Download (the "author"). By installing or using the program you accept this agreement and the Terms of Use.
1. License
The author grants you a free, non-exclusive license to install and use the program on your own computers for personal use. The program is free; contributions via “Support the project” are voluntary and grant no additional rights or features.
2. Sharing
You may share the unmodified installer free of charge, together with this agreement. You may not sell or rent the program, or share a modified version under the name Video Download.
3. Third-party components
The program contains components by other authors (yt-dlp, FFmpeg, Qt/PySide6, Node.js and others). Their own licenses apply to them and are not limited by this agreement. The license texts are in the "licenses" folder and in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt in the program folder.
4. Updates
At most once a day the program checks whether there is a new version of the program (GitHub) and of the site reader yt-dlp (PyPI). A new version of the program is installed only after you confirm it; yt-dlp updates itself and takes effect the next time the program starts.
5. No warranty
The program is provided "as is". The author does not guarantee that it will work with every site, without errors or without interruption, because sites change how they work.
6. Limitation of liability
The author is not liable for damage resulting from the use of, or the inability to use, the program, nor for the content you download. This does not apply where the law does not allow liability to be excluded, for example for intent, gross negligence or injury to life and health.
7. Termination
If you breach this agreement or the Terms of Use, the license ends and you must remove the program.
